Museum Plaza is -in my opinion- one of the most amazing mixed-use project of our time. It makes all the variables (economical regulations, community, local authorities) fit together, on an pure volume – with a Mies-ian look.
But REX, and the following video, explain it better:
Architecture photographer Iwan Baan just shared with us a photo set of the latest Herzog & de Meuron building in Spain, the Espacio de las Artes at Santa Cruz, Tenerife. Another H&dM building for Spain, after the Caixa Forum (Madrid) and the Forum building (Barcelona).
With over 20,622 sqm, the building includes a public library, a contemporary art museum, the Photography Centre of the Tenerife Island, a store, a cafe/restaurant and several public use spaces for the community.
The building is a long volume intersected by a ramp that generates a triangular plaza. Along the facade, over 1,200 openings in 720 different shapes filter the natural light to the inside, while generating an amazing view during night.
During the opening, Jaques Herzog said that this building will change the image of Tenerife, and along with the Calatrava auditorium will turn the city into a cultural focus.
Photos on the construction of a new house by Toyo Ito in “Ocho al Cubo“, a project with 8 houses by contemporary chilean architects in Marbella, plus international guests. All houses are required to be made out of concrete. This one features a big rounded inner patio. See more pictures after the break.
The two-phase international competition for the new Performing Arts Centre in Taipei included more than 100 offices from around the world. The competition was won by OMA, and generated an intense discussion on ArchDaily.
Now we bring you a proposal from the 2nd phase by spanish architects Ábalos + Sentkiewicz. We´ll try to get more projects so you can have the whole picture on this competition.
UPDATE: You can read Architect’s description after the break.
