The HA tower, designed by Frontoffice + François Blanciak Architect, proposes a hybrid model for urban life that embraces the city, pulling it in the heart of the units, while still offering large open spaces that otherwise are only available on the urban fringe. Located in Higashi-Azabu, within walking distance of a cluster of rail lines, Shiba Park, and the iconic Tokyo Tower, the corner site is small, covering only 130 square meters and is constrained by a floor area ratio that limits construction to 8 floors. Contestants are requested to submit the best concept of preservation and development of Kyiv islands.
WTC: Street Installation and Exhibition is a 4×28 foot montage comprised of closeups of the facades of the former Twin Towers- located on East 4th Street between the Bowery and Second Avenue. There will also be nine accompanying prints exhibited in the FAB Cafe across the street.
The Young Architects Forum of Atlanta invites emerging architects, landscape architects, urban designers, industrial designers and students to participate in the fourth annual 48HRS design competition.
Intended to showcase the abilities of emerging designers and the value of good design to the greater public, the competition requires quick responses and fast, innovative thinking. The project brief, which will pose a design problem located in the city of Atlanta, remains confidential until the start of the competition. Once the brief is announced, participants have 48 hours to design and submit their entries.

The project should be a proposal for a comprehensive sustainable architectural concept for the metro station and the public space above it. It should be designed according to the specific requirements of the underground rail transport system as well as the contemporary principals of urbanism.

Business and interior architecture students of Woodbury University present: 2011 ADVANCING SUSTAINABILITY – BUSINESS + DESIGN SYMPOSIUM Saturday, October 29, 2011, 10:30-5:30. This year’s symposium will focus on sustainability within the scope of business and design.
The metropolitan area of Los Angeles is facing many environmental, infrastructural and socio-economical challenges in the 21st century. In order to address these, different sustainable concepts and technologies are being developed and successfully implemented. Though primarily known as Wiliamsburg’s only first-run movie house, this project is in actuality an expansive 23,000 square foot mixed-use building with three floors of residential apartments above the cinemas, bar, café commercial kitchen housed in the retrofitted brick warehouse below. All of the apartments have access to outdoor space in the form of private roof decks at the penthouse level and shared courtyard access for the floors below. Ojanen_Chiou Architects shared with us their first prize winning proposal for the Kunshan Huaqiao Forum and Hotel where the city is known as the birthplace of traditional Kunqu opera, and is renowned for its unique canal townships in the Yangtze River Delta. The effort to create synergy between urban development and environmental habitat, while creating numerous layers of experience that maximize the use and enjoyment of the water’s edge, became the inspiration for the organization and form of the architecture. As the centerpiece of the entire development, the buildings seek to exemplify an adaptive, ecological and progressive spirit while retaining a strong connection to local cultural traditions. On Thursday 29 September 2011 at 6:15 pm Jan Nieuwenburg, councillor of education in the city of Haarlem, will open the exhibition, ‘From Crèche to Campus – Mecanoo’s educational buildings, present and future’ in the ABC Architecture Centre in Haarlem, the Netherlands. This exhibition presents the educational buildings designed by Mecanoo Architecten analysed and placed in perspective against the backdrop of changes in society, ideas about education and the status of schools. The “Open Monument” project is a permanent public space installation, by MAI_lab | MAIpublicspace, that wants to recover the link between the inhabitants of Crestuma, Portugal and its landscape history. At the same time, the design aims to boost an experimental, pedagogical and participative realm that should develop new senses of appropriation and belonging. The project proposal for the Campus International School for Downtown Cleveland, designed by OS+A, illustrates the transformation of Cleveland State University’s master plan for converting the area into a dense mixed-use development and with recreation fields. The quotation ‘’an opportunity to re-evaluate the broader terrain in which children learn and give as great an emphasis on learning environments as others have given the educational philosophies’’ formed the basis for their proposal. The Swedish branch of C. F. Møller Architects, in collaboration with Berg Arkitektkontor, has designed Sweden’s new, spectacular skiing attraction, Skipark 360°, the world’s most complete indoor ski park with a 700 m long downhill slope and a drop of 160 m, making it the only indoor ski slope in the world to meet the requirements for hosting the World Cup. The Økern area of Oslo faces significant changes in the near future and is being developed as a new destination in the city. The new Økern center brings shopping, culture and housing to the area. The city of Jinzhou is located 430 kilometers north of Beijing in the province of Liaoning and lies 20 kilometers inland. The Jinzhou Longqiwan New Area is an urban development on the coast of the Bonzai Sea. Part of this development is a park, for which Bureau B+B is building a ‘fierljep’ polder and an information centre. This polder-garden will open during the Jinzhou World Landscape Art Exposition in 2013. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The Ken Roberts Memorial Delineation Competition recognizes architectural visualizations from talented artists all over the world and represents the longest running delineation competition on record.
Ken Roberts was a Louisiana native and an architect who worked for the firm Craycroft-Lacy & Partners during the late 1960′s in Dallas. He then left to join forces with Dick Savage and later with Clutts & Parker to form Iconoplex, Inc in 1973. As his former boss Jack Craycroft recalls, Roberts was “a great designer and even better architect”. In addition, Roberts produced numerous immaculate ink perspective drawings of small residential and commercial projects that testified to an impressive facility for architectural rendering by hand. The 9th Annual Emirates Glass LEAF Awards recently announced the winning projects and proved to be a huge success attracting a whole host of recognizable faces from the architectural community. This spectacular evening took place in the stunning surroundings of the Landmark hotel which was admired by the many guests that attended.
