TRILUX, designed by Future Cities Lab, is an experimental pavilion constructed out of three vertical wooden lattice structures that will be on display in downtown San Francisco until November 20th . It creates an illuminated beacon anchoring the corner of the site and inviting the neighborhood to participate in the museum activities that take place inside it. The aim of this International competition, hosted by [AC-CA], is to design an Iconic Pedestrian Bridge in the Heart of Amsterdam. The architecture of this new structure should reflect contemporary design tendencies. The proposal must not only attend to the specific function but the design should also take into consideration the urban insertion and impact geared towards creating a new architectural symbol for an European capital city. As part of As part of the series of Architectural Workshops by Architects and Designers series by Ajman University of Science & Technology, Eric Owen Moss will be presenting a workshop titled, ‘Who Says What Architecture Is?’ from November 14-17.

Sir Peter Cook is 75 and to celebrate the iconic British architect and Archigram co-founder’s birthday, 75 established and emerging international artists have produced a portrait of Sir Peter to auction for charity Architecture for Humanity aiding post disaster relief in Haiti and Japan. Both the auction and exhibition started on October 26th and runs until November 9th. Inspired by the spirit of the place and our time, the first prize winning concept by SAGRA Architects creates a place that is rooted in the original structure of the square but still up-to date. Aiming to strengthen the connections of the square to its surroundings, their main ambitions were to balance the historical and modern elements and connect the existing and new elements of the square in harmony. The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA), Montréal presents Imperfect Health: the Medicalization of Architecture, on view in the main galleries which started on October 15th and is up until April 1, 2012. Photographs, publications, art and design projects and architectural models and drawings reveal some of the uncertainties and contradictions surrounding health issues and considers how architecture acknowledges, incorporates and affects them. The exhibition questions common understandings of “positive” and “negative” outcomes within the flux of research on and cultural conceptions of health. It continues the CCA’s ongoing investigations into how the design and use of urban spaces shapes human well being. More information on the exhibition after the break.

WSJ. Magazine recently announced its inaugural Innovator of the Year Awards, honoring the most creative, disruptive, and influential individuals in the world today. In conjunction with the November issue of WSJ., seven winners will be honored at a dinner on Thursday, October 27, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The November issue of WSJ. will hit newsstands on Saturday, October 29, as part of WSJ Weekend.

The winners of the 2011 WSJ. Storefront for Art and Architecture will host a “closing ceremony” for the exhibition, Sacred Spaces in Profane Buildings, an exhibition by Matilde Cassani that explores secret, sacred territory throughout New York, on November 5, 2011 at 5pm. The ceremony will include discussion with local clergy on the condition of religion in the city of New York, focusing on the religious spaces that are built in non-traditional places to worship. Made possible through the support of SCohen Steel & Style, Hrvoje Njiric + Arhitekti is presenting a lecture on Affordable Utopias at the Zezeze Architecture Gallery on November 7th.

Hrvoje Njiric is one of the most prominent architects to come out of Croatia and the Balkan area in the past two decade. Mr. Njiric gained acknowledgement in the 90′s with projects developed by the former njiric+njiric partnership, including schemes for Europan (3 first prizes) and Slovenian projects for Baumaxx and McDonald’s which were widely published and awarded. In 2001, Njiric+ was founded and continues the work of the former office. More information on the event after the break.

The townhouse prototype design by AllesWirdGut Architektur demonstrates how the new office and shopping building fits in with the typology of detached townhouses in the neighborhood. Slight twists of the basic volume actively impact the surrounding urban fabric such as a bend in the longitudinal facade and the staggering of floors. The United States Green Building Council has awarded the University of North Texas’ Apogee Stadium, designed by HKS Architects and built by Manhattan Construction Company, a LEED Platinum Certification, making it the first newly constructed collegiate football stadium in the nation to achieve the highest level of LEED certification.

The 31,000-seat Apogee Stadium features luxury suites, an amenity-filled club level, a Spirit Store, a corporate deck and a unique end-zone seating area. In addition to hosting UNT events, it will serve the entire North Texas region as a venue for outdoor concerts, community events, high school games and band competitions. EDIT! Architects shared with us their design for River Park Modrany, a residential complex in the Modrany district, located in the south of Prague by the Vltava river. The district is typically covered with villas from the beginning of 20th century that surround the Modrany landmark, a 60m high Microna tower. We have divided the plot into strips of land in a perpendicular axis to the main urban lines [tramline, train tracks, main road, the river itself]. A building volume has been placed into every strip and main vertical cores have been defined for all volumes. We have stretched up the core building parts in a way to create the hill-like shapes of the buildings. The volumes have been afterwards rotated in order to improve the particular views from every building. More images and architects’ description after the break.

The main concept of the proposal for the Hotel Liesma by PRAUD is to elevate the new hotel mass from the ground level. There are two major purposes of this approach; to have a widely open public park on the ground level and to provide better views to the Baltic sea from hotel rooms. Architecture 2.0, the symposium for Architecture, will take place on November 11, 2011. For the third edition of Architecture 2.0, China and India take centre stage. Both countries have a fast-growing economy and a rapidly evolving architectural tradition. The mammoth tasks that await these countries will also contribute to shaping the future of architecture. Representatives of different generations of architects from China and India will shed light on developments in their respective homelands: Charles Correa and Bimal Patel will speak about India, while Zhang Ke and Yung Ho Chang will speak about China. From the Dutch perspective, two speakers will share their experiences of working in these two countries: Jacob van Rijs will talk about MVRDV’s projects in India, and David Gianotten about OMA’s work in China. Zagreb Society of Architects is opening the call for the final event of the annual cycle of The Borders competitions. They are inviting you to the First Think Space Unconference – ‛Beyond the Borders’ on November 18 – 20 in Lauba House, People and Art House, Zagreb, Croatia.

Following the four rounds of the conceptual architectural competitions, the final event will be organized together with an award ceremony and exhibition of projects submitted during the architectural competitions in the Think Space Program. Conceived as a series of highly interactive sessions for 300 participants who will lively discuss the topics from the competitions, the final event is planned in the form of the unconference. The design proposal by ZA Architects is intended to become a framework for further development of human activity in the exclusion zone around Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine. The backbone of the project is a mono-rail road with 4 stations, each having its own unique function. This environmentally-friendly and profitable railroad will cater for the tourist and industrial needs and can be implemented in several stages. NBBJ & Yassir Khalil Studio shared with us their vision for the new Grand Stade de Casablanca. Their goal for the project is to create a center for sports and assembly events which is keenly in tune with the natural environment, geography, and history of the nation of Morocco. The sports center will signify to the world the unique character and vision of the city, while taking advantage of the natural environment to reduce energy consumption and create a dramatic human experience.
