The UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track has now opened its Call for Papers, asking how architecture can activate its profound agency in shaping our societies and its potentials for a sustainable, equitable and inclusive future for all. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present at the UIA World Congress of Architects 2023 Copenhagen taking place July 2-6, 2023.
The Call for Paper invites contributions to the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track asking: by which means and through what actions architecture can fulfill its active role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“With only 8 years left to achieve the SDGs real action must take place now. With this Call for Papers the World Congress aims to foster new research and knowledge exchanges needed for the architecture and the built environment disciplines to understand, build and fulfill their active role in achieving the SDGs. Together we have a collective responsibility to articulate and demonstrate architecture’s capacity to create impactful questions, approaches and solutions across all 17 SDGs and help ensure that no one is left behind,” says Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen, professor and General Reporter for UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track.
Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present at the UIA World Congress 2023 in Copenhagen and will be published in a congress proceedings book-series published by Springer.
Leave no one behind:
The Scientific Committee of the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track has articulated the Call for Papers across 6 panels that frame the interconnectedness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Architecture and the built environments have extensive and complex impact on human and non-human wellbeing. To fulfill the SDG vision to ‘leave no one behind’, the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH asks how architecture can activate its profound agency in shaping our societies and its potentials for a sustainable, equitable and inclusive future for all.
With the Call for Papers the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH aims to bring together knowledge across research, practice and education to provoke new perspectives, new alliances and concrete action. The call invites new research and knowledge that critically explore the diverse ways in which architecture and the built environment connect to the SDGs and their targets.
Submissions:
The Call for Papers encourages submissions from academics, independent scholars, built environment agents of change including civil society organisations, as well as practitioners and policy makers.
Diverse experiences and knowledge are essential to articulate the agency of architecture to contribute to achieving all 17 SDGs. To expand the possibility of transdisciplinary knowledge exchange and include voices that are not commonly part of academic and professional discourse, UIA World Congress 2023 CPH invites submissions in four formats:
– Research Paper
– Visual Essay
– Narrative Essay
– Argumentative Essay
The UIA 2023 Scientific Committee:
The Scientific Committee is responsible for the scientific and professional content of the congress and critically drives and informs the work of the Science Track. Members of the committee are:
Carlo Ratti, Sandi Hilal, Christian Benimana, Magda Mostafa, Billie Faircloth, Maibritt Pedersen Zari, Merve Bedir, Anna Rubbo, Arif Hasan, Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen, Juan Du, and Ruth Baumeister.
