DogA / JSA The planning and building work was done in approximately 15 months, resulting in an extremely hectic process. The building consisted of a conglomerate of different additions and alterations from around 1860 until 1980. We thought it would be appropriate and interesting to reveal this intense and dramatic history of continuous physical change by uncovering as many as possible of the “voices” from the past (read more…)
Goodman House / Preston Scott Cohen A transported, restored and re-erected Dutch barn frame is contained in this house like a guitar in its case. The gabled barn form appears to turn outside in due to a passageway traversing the entire width of the house. The breezeway converts into a winter garden by means of slide up screen doors and roll down glass doors. Thermally transformable, the breezeway/winter garden saves energy costs (read more…)
Manresa City Hall / Add Bailo Rull We have understood Manresa as the city that one day settled itself on a hill bordering the river Cardener, in front of Montserrat mountains. The City Hall building stands near the edge of the platform that, occupied by the historic quarter, juts out towards the river and faces Montserrat. The main facade overlooks the central city plaza, and is the terminus of the main routes that cut through the historic centre (read more…)
House at Janelas Verdes / Pedro Domingos Arquitectos The project consist in the reconstruction of building of XIX century, inserted in the Lapa/Prazeres district. The pre-existing build was in an advanced degree of degradation, the facades and the sidewalls was the usable structure. The strategy was to replace the old “organ” – the interior structure of wood and plaster, by a new one, also of wood and plaster, trying to get the compatibility of the whole “body (read more…)
Leça House / Ezzo Renewal and refurbishment of an anonymous existing building without any interest, was developed by exploring the double height until the roof for the creation of a mezzanine space. The building functions as a residence, this proposition is developed in a philosophy that do not imply substantial alterations in the main volume, only the rise of the roof top, as well as the redesign of the roof itself (read more…)
