Egoin is a company that manufactures structural timber solutions catered for the construction industry. AULETS Arquitectes designed the Arimunani School in Mallorca, a timber frame building developed by Egoin using their GLULAM - Glue Laminated Timber and CLT - Cross Laminated Timber.

Located in the small town of Marratxí, 18 km from Palma de Mallorca, the Arimunani school draws inspiration from existing monasteries on the Balearic Island to create the structure of the building. In particular, its ability to protect against the weather and provide climatic comfort through courtyards. The architects thoroughly analyzed the contextual conditions to design spaces that enabled teaching activities anywhere on the premises.

The project features vegetal and architectural gestures that balance extreme climatic conditions. The building is designed to protect itself from summer radiation through the shade of trees and cantilevers, facilitating cross ventilation and winter radiation. In addition, the interior courtyard creates a climatic oasis. The building is mainly constructed with biosphere materials, which reduces the added energy by 65% of CO2 emissions. Egoin was responsible for manufacturing the porticoed structure using their GLULAM - Glue Laminated Timber slabs, and CLT - Cross Laminated Timber walls, made of radiata pine from certified forests in the Basque Country. Specifically, the company has used approximately 130 m3 of CLT and 56 m3 of GLT.

Egoin GLULAM - Glue Laminated Timber is crafted by bonding and pressing together finger-jointed structural timber lamellas. This meticulous process aligns wood fibers parallel to each other, resulting in robust timber beams.

Egoin CLT - Cross Laminated Timber is a prefabricated building material known for its strength and stability, comparable to traditional concrete and steel structures. Egoin provides CLT panels made from structural-grade sawn timber finger-jointed boards, arranged and glued perpendicular to each other. Typically comprising an odd number of layers, additional layers can be added to enhance span capability, fire rating, or aesthetic appeal.
