As part of the Liget Budapest Competition, SCStudio has shared their entry for the House of Hungarian Music. A transformation of an existing city park, the project is conceived as a sequence of cultural programs - an “urban archipelago” - connected by a “naturalistic promenade” of pathways and landscape within a preserved forested area.
An event hall, permanent and temporary gallery space, learning center, a library, cafe and lecture areas will call be included. Visitors can navigate the site by light and sound via by common routes marked by landscaping.
One of the proposal’s goals is to establish an alliance between architecture and nature. All existing trees are preserved and incorporated into the design, while the center’s design works with the landscape to maximize energy performance through an number of passive design strategies. The integration of photovoltaics, wastewater management, the use of recycled materials and the diversification of green spaces are all employed to enhance the bond between nature and architecture.
