Callison, a global architecture and design firm, announced the completion of the MixC (the first phase of 24 City) in Chengdu, China. This is a second completed landmark project with China Resources where Callison provided master planning, architecture, interior and EGD design services.
Located at #2 Ring Rd, which is a major ring road around the city in Chengdu, 24 City is a mixed-use development of high-end shopping centers, a Class A office tower, five-star hotel and luxury residential buildings. And the first retail phase (of the MixC and office tower) is to attract Chengdu’s burgeoning population of young, active professionals to the new 24 City.
Mainly comprised of retail and F&B spaces, the mall also features a supermarket, ice rink, cinema and food court all integrated within a new-concept green terrace layout. This optimized design transforms this truly unique shopping mall into Chengdu’s first “one-stop” retail center.
The project's design concept was to produce comprehensive functionality in a compact location. The design goal for the integrated shopping center was achieved by maximizing retail space and producing natural atmosphere by combining appealing indoor and outdoor features. Since the overall architectural style emphasizes the combination of building environment and green area, visitors enjoy an inviting shopping and dining experience with views of the terraced space, enclosed plaza, and roof garden. The shopping center’s distinctive design concept defines the new story of MixC brand.
The façade design of MixC tells a story of distinct contrasts - where gentle curves meet hard edges, and where play and hustle meet relaxation and natural energy. These contrasts contribute to a dynamic environment for different shopping experiences. Inside, each court will reflect a distinct and unique personality inspired by the overall “astral concepts” theme, as well as the project identity and logo. Colors, patterns, materials and design will be orchestrated to convey the exciting and ever interesting cosmic story of the stars from Center Court to “Sunken” North Court.
Chengdu MIXC was built on what used to be the location of an airplane engine manufacturing facility, an iconic symbol of post-revolutionary China and the changes transforming the country. To preserve its history, artifacts were extracted from the site and incorporated into a museum located within the retail podium. Located on the top level, the modest space will display historical artifacts for the public to view – a very unique attribute to a shopping center.
