Text description provided by the architects. A new market hall in Wakefield forming part of a wider regeneration of the Trinity Walk and Marsh Way area close to the town centre. The market consists of three halls which are related to one another by a flat roof supported on a steel frame and, with this plane as the dominant reference, the halls define two external spaces.

The dry goods hall and the food hall frame two sides of a covered square and, for people arriving at the bus station, this space acts as a portico to the town centre. To the west, there is a large service yard for deliveries and parking.

Each hall has different proportions and a distinctive materiality and the experience of moving between a number of fully and partially enclosed spaces is one of continuous change and contrast.
